You’ll need to build confidence if you want to create wealth for yourself and your family. This is another key that you have to have in your arsenal of tools, because self-doubt will creep into your life and sabotage your efforts. Typically, the self doubt manifests itself as procrastination, which is delaying the implementation of action toward a goal.

In this section, I’d like to talk more about overcoming self-doubt and building confidence so that you can move toward manifesting wealth in your future.

Recently, we have been talking about another key to creating wealth, namely, getting wisdom. Wisdom is the biblical key to making more money. Yesterday, we looked at the first smart pill ever mentioned in the bible; which is the story of forbidden fruit in the book of Genesis. The smart pill did work, according to the legend, but it also had a unintended side-effect:

Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; Genesis 3:7 (NIV)

The side effect of gaining wisdom seems to be self doubt. “They realized they were naked” is strange to me. If they were the only ones on the planet at that time, then what would it matter if you were running around butt naked?

Let’s explore that.

Recall that wisdom is the ability to think ahead and make predictions on the future. So apparently to me, they were now thinking ahead and making predictions on what might happen when there are a lot of people on the planet. While it is cool to think about the possibilities of everyone naked, you have to come back and say… “Hmmmm, I don’t think I want all the other males on the planet looking at my wife’s body and getting any unscrupulous ideas.

“Opps. I don’t think that was such a smart decision.” They seem to have said to themselves. And now self doubt has crept in.

Can you think of how “understanding of the way things work” may alter your decision making process?

I recall reading somewhere, that after the nuclear scientists pried open the secrets of the atom, and detonated the first atomic bomb in 1945, they had some major doubts about what they just did. Opps. That Genie is out of the bottle, and now you can’t put it back in.

It shook the scientific community to the core. Many prominent scientists, including Albert Einstien, wrote a letter to President Truman asking him to hide this project because of the future implications of an arms race among nations. Of course, that is all history now.

I recall back in the 50’s and 60’s, people had a more positive vision of the future with atomic energy. They thought it would make all sorts of inventions possible, such as flying cars, and super-fast space ships that would take average people to Mars.

But the doubt of nuclear energy crept in, and during the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s, people became so fearful of nuclear energy, that nobody built new power plants using this fuel. Only recently, after people realized that nuclear energy is a “green energy” that doesn’t put CO2 into the air have they started to dream again.

Think of all the time that was wasted by the self doubt and the procrastination people had about nuclear energy. Where would we be today if we had abundant, cheap, energy? If only we were able to build confidence way back when…

One way to build confidence is to look for outside help. For Christians, this is looking to God for guidance (see Isaiah 43:2). I’m not here to convert you, so I’ll offer some other options too. A great place to start is the audio CD course called “Lifestorms: Blasting through Self-Sabotage for Breakthrough Results!” It looks at the process of self-sabotage from a non-religious way of thinking, so you don’t have to worry about religious mumbo-jumbo. This program is scientifically researched by a leading psychologist, Dr. Kevin Hogan.

In it, you’ll learn that there is only one cause of failing to achieve. Self Sabotage. In Lifestorms, you learn the 12 life patterns of self sabotage and destruction, and you are given blueprints for how to erase the old patterns and plug in new ones.

Is this product for you? Ask yourself these questions:

  • Do you ever know you should start on a project but don’t?
  • Do you have projects that you have started but never finished?
  • Do you ever say the one wrong thing at the wrong time?
  • Have you ever had things going well in life only to have everything blow up in a day?
  • Have you tried to be so careful not to make a mistake that you were shocked when you made a truly costly one?
  • Have you ever promised yourself to stay out of trouble in some way only to find yourself in the same trouble or worse again?

If the answer to any of these questions is yes, you’ve probably had a Lifestorm. Lifestorms are what happen when your Negative Life Patterns trigger Self-Sabotage to keep you ‘safe’. This has been your undoing. Now, with this program, you’ll learn the tools to finally take control. To learn more about this program, please click here.

Question of Today: Give an example of how “understanding of the way things work” did alter your decision making process in a negative way?

Of course, if that particular group of scientists hadn’t invented the atomic bomb when they did, someone else might’ve beaten us to it, with devastating consequences.

But there are many other times when I haven’t taken the time to properly research something before I did it, and I ended up regretting it when I learned “how the world works”…

I can’t think of many times where I understood the way things work & it had negative consequences. Perhaps you meant NOT having an understanding of the way things work?

  6. I self-sabotage all the time. It is something I try to work on, but then I sabotage working on it… a vicious cycle. I think often, when we know how the world works, we give up on our projects. Everyone will probably think my idea is stupid, or it won’t work anyways, etc. But if everyone thought that way, no one would invent anything. So at least some people manage to get around the negative internal dialogue and keep going.
