To make money online, or in the brick-and-mortar world, you must eliminate what Zig Zillar calls Stinking Thinking. It is any attitude that limits you from achieving success. In fact, all Stinking Thinking starts in your mind. It is rarely overt in nature. Stinking Thinking covertly sabotages you from getting to where you want to go, which is why you don’t even know you suffer from the condition. Right now, there is a 99% chance that you are carrying this condition around in your mind.

Let me give you an example by looking at the topic of food and body weight. It has been said that overweight people have an emotional problem with food. They can go on diets and do exercise, but eventually they trip up and gain it back because of that Stinking Thinking problem in their brain. Until that can get a handle on that, it has been said that they’ll never be able to keep the weight off permanently. Does that make sense?

Let’s take this example of Stinking Thinking and apply it to your wallet. Right now it may be a bit thin, right? You want it to be fat. But why isn’t it?

It is the Stinking Thinking in action, and you don’t even know it is going on. Over the years, I know that you’ve heard all the great advice about how to make money online or in the brick-and-mortar world. But yet, it seems you can’t seem to keep your wallet fat. The reason, it is the subtle Stinking Thinking that trips you up.

I’m sure you’ve heard someone say something like: “Money isn’t good or bad, it is what you do with it.”

That is STINKING THINKING!

Here’s why. Follow this argument here…

The big debate in the USA right now is about government take over of health care. The Republicans are rightly concerned about how this is going to impact the mindset of business owners. A business owner knows that he is the one that is going to foot the bill for the health care of everyone around him through significantly higher taxes. “That sucks!” he thinks to himself. “Well, screw you… I’m not going to hire more people and make more money. You government bureaucrats are only going to take it away from me in taxes. What is the point of making more money if I don’t get to keep it?”

You’d call that Stinking Thinking, right? So the result is that he doesn’t take on any extra risk, and then the entire economy suffers.

Now when you say something like “Money isn’t good or bad, it is what you do with it,” you are planting a very tiny seed of doubt in your brain. And here’s what your brain does with it, and how it affects your actions:

Your brain, unconsciously says to itself: “Hmmmm, I might spend that money in a bad way and then people are going to think bad things about me. It is better to play it safe. Therefore I’ll instruct the body to go do something else besides the thing that is going to yield significant financial wealth.”

Did the light bulb go off in your head yet? You’ve got a case of Stinking Thinking.

Here’s the first step in the cure. Repeat after me… “Money in my pocket is a good, good thing.” Repeat that again and again and again until it you force all the Stinking Thinking out. Money in my pocket is a good, good thing!

If you can’t say that, then I suggest you send all your money to me. Because money in my pocket is a good, good thing. 😉

Make Money Tip #5: God wants you to enjoy the money he’s given to you and the things it can do for you.

Trust in the LORD and do good;
dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.
Delight yourself in the LORD
and he will give you the desires of your heart.

Psalm 37:3-4

Did you get that? Enjoy the land and the things that money can buy. God knows you have desires, and he wants to give them to you.

Most people have a Stinking Thinking, and there is a lot more to this than I can post here. I highly recommend you start purging those thoughts from your brain. Until you do, your subconscious is going to sabatoge your efforts. I highly recommend the complete program by Kevin Hogan called “Manifesting the Millionaire Mind.” Wealth accumulation is a mindset, first and foremost, and you MUST start by conditioning your brain to accept the wealth you’re going to accumulate as you make money on the internet or in the brick-and-mortar world. I have purchased the program, and it has made a tremendous difference in my life.

Question of the day: What is the sense of making or having money if you aren’t allowed to enjoy it?

I can see how “Stinkin Thinkin” can get in the way of our success and limit our actions. Getting the mind straight is often the best first step in any endeavor.

This happens with everything! We all prevent ourselves from accomplishing goals by self-destructing.

I deserve the money in my pocket! =-)

    Hi Tim,

I really like how you use Scripture to demonstrate and illustrate your points. What do you find to be the most helpful modalities for actually eliminating “Stinking Thinking?” Do you find that simply looking at it rationally and logically is sufficient? Or do you recommend using modalities which address the unconscious mind/the emotional mind must be leveraged as well?

Good Question April. I appreciate the well thought-out response.

To be honest, I personally find it best to surround yourself with people that have a positive attitude, especially those that have an attitude of abundance.

People are pouring words and thoughts into all day long. Your subconscious mind is logging them all, and will eventually what goes in will overflow and ooze out. Don’t let it in.

Be picky about who you allow in your inner circle of friends. Put up barriers, gate keepers, and toll booths in your life. Only let in the people that qualify for your attention.
And at the same time, make a conscious effort to listen to good stuff, like the
      Kevin Hogan programs

I have even caught myself saying “Money isn’t bad or good, it is what you do with it” on occasions… It’s helpful when someone can point out the limiting mechanisms we have toward money and offer a better way of communicating with ourselves about it! Thanks Tim!

Money is a good thing I like it in my pocket. That feels good.
The stinking thinking that bothers me is the people who think they only deserve what they have and there is no way for them to get ahead. I believe that real entrepreneur is the one who says I am short on money I will have to go out and get some more. Then figure out what needs to be done to get the money and go get it.

To believe that we deserve it…even for those of us who were raised as Christians…I wonder sometimes why that is so difficult that is to do?

How you enjoy the money is the question.

How does that verse above apply if the desires are contrary to what God wants for your life.

Enjoying the things we’ve earned and the things we’ve been given…. money is one of these things and gifts, too. Joy is also found in sharing these things with others, too, don’t you think?
